Fathers & Sons Outing

Parker and Bryce had a blast on the Fathers & Sons Outing . . .

Do you remember your first time camping?

Amazingly for Parker and Bryce, this was the first time they had ever been camping, and they were excited! So we broke the seal on a tent that I had purchased like 11 years ago and I took the boys on the Father and Sons Outing.

The crazy thing is this is the first time we had been camping since we had been married! Pretty crazy considering the fact that I love to camp and Denise has always wanted to go camping (some kind of pent up rage from her youth when the boys got to go camping, hiking, etc; while she had to stay and have lessons in Young Womens). So kind of wierd that this would be the first time we broke out this tent.

The only things they knew about camping was that they got to sleep in a tent and in a sleeping bag... They talked about it for weeks!

There was so much fun stuff for kids to do... Parker's favorite was a tree swing. Bryce loved looking for bugs. And both loved digging! We camped in someone's horse pasture. It was really an amazing location. Lots of trees and a creek that ran through the middle.

Oh and lets not forget a camp fire and roasted marshmellows (man, those make a mess!)

Bryce had a hard time walking anywhere with the weeds and "bird poop" (aka horse droppings). He would just freeze and ask "can you pick me up?"

There were some horses on the other side of the creek that just roamed wild in the pasture and Bryce wanted nothing more than to go see them. So I took the boys and some other kids accross a fallen tree and went to try to see the horses. All of the kids were afraid to get to close, except Bryce. I kept trying to get him to stay back so that he wouldn't get hurt... no fear. I was finally able to get a horse to remain still long enought to pet him with a bribe... some grass to eat... but it was wild.
In the end Bryce got to pet the horse.

The Bishopbrick brought a projector and their laptop (geeks!) and we watched a new musical movie that night about Ammon and his trials and success with the Lamanites. It was a good reminder to share all of the wonderful blessings that we have in our lives by having the gospel with others. And how a mighty change of heart can take place for anyone. It was cool!

A new world record was set! Before it was even dark, both boys were practically begging to go to bed. Though they did love using their flashlights... They couldn't wait to get into the tent! This never happens at our house!
I however had forgotten how hard the ground is when sleeping in a tent! Or maybe I'm
just getting old...
The next morning, Grandpa was able to come and have breakfast with us (provided by the High Priests) and hang out with the boys for a while... They love their grandpa! The boys did a great job setting up and taking down the tent. They are good workers when you get them into it!

Our New Car

Would you look at this car! Pretty amazing Ferrari. We had a little extra cash, and decided to go for it; after all you only live once right? We thought "go big or go home". Just think of the tickets you could get with such a car, that is if the cops could catch you... Sure it's not much of a family car; only 2 seats, but that's the beauty of it... no room for the kids. It's like an escape pod to adventure.

Then reality sets in and you think...is this living outside my means? Absolutely!
On the 5th of July, we went down and watched fireworks at a neighborhood block party. It was a great time, and the boys loved it (most of it... Bryce spent the night holding his ears)! Mostly the fireworks were from Costco. They had bigger stuff, but were saving it for New Years, when there's no chance of a fire.

When the fireworks were over, we went next door to see the neighbors new Ferrari (okay, so the truth comes out). He had recently sold his older red one and custom ordered this one. He was nice enough to show it to us and even let us sit in it! Then he gave us a word of advice..."If you want to own one of these, get a good education."

So that's my problem. That explains a lot. Glad we could get these things figured out...
